Copy My Garage Simulator
I built this golf simulator in my garage from scratch — without spending $20,000+ on a pre-built package.
This page breaks down the setup I use today, and what equipment and materials you need to copy it - from the launch monitor and projector to the hitting mat, gaming PC, impact screen, and DIY enclosure parts.
The goal was simple: build a legit home golf simulator that looks good, performs well, and doesn’t cost a fortune.
I’ve included the products I used, along with a few lower-cost alternatives where I think you can save money without sacrificing too much.
Launch Monitor
Extremely easy setup. Accurate and reliable data - deep data that comes without any additional subscription fees. One of the easiest launch monitors to use. Plug and play.
[I use the older version, Flightscope Mevo+, which was more expensive and has less features than the Mevo Gen2]
Alternate Option
Square Launch Monitor [$699] - Great budget option that still provides impressively accurate data and works with the top software packages. Still provides everything you need to work on your game and play incredible courses.
Mat
SwingTurf Hitting Mat[$399]
Extreme durability with a fairway-like feel.
Great short-throw projector. Easy to set up and use. Clean, clear, and immersive images.
Gaming PC
High powered gaming PC that can deliver a smooth experience with great graphics.
Materials for Enclosure
Corner Pieces [x8]
Corner pieces for the enclosure. The best price I could find was on tarps.com.
1” EMT Conduit [10’ x9]
I used 1” EMT conduit. Smaller EMT conduit or PVC will sag in the middle across the 10’ span.
You’ll need nine of the 10ft pipes. Cut to:
3 cut to 10ft
4 cut to 8ft
4 cut to 4ft
You’ll need an 8’ by 10’ impact screen. The best deal I could find was from AllSportSystems.
They also included the ball bungees and zip ties that you will need to hang the screen.
Vinyl Tarps [8’ x 10’ x3]
You’ll need 3 tarps (top & sides). You can use a standard poly tarp, but these heavy-duty vinyl tarps look a lot cleaner, and will hold up better against a stray shot.
Other
Gym Tiles - Foam tiles from amazon or local sporting goods store
Turf - Not necessary, but can give the setup a cleaner look. I found mine at a hardware store
Projector Mount - I ordered this Universal Projector Mount, but any universal mount should work
